The GST detailed food list shows the GST status of major food and beverage product lines. The ATO have recently made about 30 minor updates to the list, including:
- correcting some existing entries
- adding new food and beverage product lines
- deleting some existing entries.
They’ll continue to make updates in future and consult industry on more substantial changes.
We encourage you to review the detailed food list regularly and check if GST applies on the sale price of your item. The list includes items from A to Z, and there’s a table within the list that outlines changes made over time for your reference.
You can also use the food and beverage search tool to check if a food or beverage is GST-free or taxable. This is the quickest and easiest way to help you work out if GST applies so you get it right from the start.
You can find more information about GST and food, including the definition of ‘food’ under GST law and GST in the food supply chain on the ATO website.
